Our curriculum is designed for children starting from 18 months until their school enrollment.
Children are taught in three groups: in our “Mini Preschool” Group for children between the ages of 18 months and 3 years, and in our two Upper Preschool Groups - one for children aged 3 and 4 years and one for children aged 5 and 6 years.
Through the educational content of our specially designed project themes, our experienced teachers and through incorporating elements of Montessori teaching, we present children with the best tools for discovering the world around them.
Our Preschool Curriculum is closely modelled on the British National Curriculum and is followed by all Preschool classes. Being based in Bavaria, elements of the Bavarian Educational Plan (“Bayerischer Bildungs- und Erziehungsplan”) are incorporated as well as best-practice elements that our international teachers bring from different curriculums around the world.
Our teachers bring a variety of skills, talents and experiences to our Preschool. All of our teachers have degrees in or related to early childhood education. Our team focusses not only on a strong child–teacher relationship, but also on a successful parent-teacher relationship that will support the growth and development of your child.
The International Preschool in Munich will open up an exciting new world of learning for your child in an environment that is caring, joyful, and secure!
Our Mini Preschool program uses hands-on exploration and social interaction in a safe, stimulating and engaging environment to help your child learn about his or her expanding world.
Each term an interesting and engaging project theme (for example: “All about Myself”, “Sharing our Planet”, “Community Helpers”) is chosen for the children to explore and study. The project themes are selected carefully to ensure that the children receive a rich and stimulating curriculum throughout the year. A great part of the learning and activities that take place in the Mini Preschool revolve around the project theme chosen and stories, songs, art and crafts are linked to the theme wherever possible.
Daily activities take place in small groups or as a whole group and are made up of arts and craft, singing, dancing, circle time, story-telling as well as plenty of indoor and outdoor play.
All of these activities are thoughtfully planned opportunities for the children to learn more about the world around them, to feed their natural curiosity, to develop skills and competencies, as well as to grow communication skills and intercultural sensitivity. Our Mini Preschool curriculum is designed to adapt to each individual child’s age and developmental stage and to help them grow at their own speed. Additionally, we offer all our children extra-curricular classes including yoga for toddlers, dance and sports, as well as music classes focusing on early musical education in cooperation with the Musikschule Grünwald.
Our early childhood teachers provide our children not only with an opportunity to develop social and play skills but they also create daily experiences that promote the children’s blossoming independence and foster self-confidence. The class is led by qualified and experienced teachers who have been educated and trained in early childhood development and who really focus on each individual child, taking into account his or her unique personality. All of our teachers are native fluent English speakers. Our Mini Preschool teachers are also fully trained to assist children with potty/toilet training.
The Upper Preschool is divided into two separate age groups: one class for ages 3 and 4 and a class for ages 5 and 6. This way we are able to provide more age-appropriate lessons and support for each individual child. This also enables our teachers a more focused approach for the children as they grow and develop.
Our large and spacious classrooms are organised in a way that gives the children plenty of space to move around and to work on the floor and at tables, either individually or in groups. Within the classroom there are different areas of learning such as the Writing Area, the Reading Area, the Building Area, the Home Corner and the Montessori Corner which are regularly enhanced and altered to breed creativity, self-exploration and to further develop fine-motor skills. In addition to daily guided learning sessions, the children are given the freedom of choice during free play to explore, play and experience as they choose.
Each term a project theme is chosen for the children to explore and study. The themes are well selected to ensure that the children receive a rich and stimulating curriculum throughout the year. A great part of the learning that takes place in the Upper Preschool revolves around the theme chosen and songs, crafts, stories and discussions are linked to and incorporated into the topic where possible.
The children learn through a variety of experiences including structured learning activities, structured and unstructured play, arts, crafts, reading and many more. We place emphasis on language, literacy and mathematical development but add breadth through inclusion of science, history, geography, social studies and creative arts. In order to ensure that all teaching is at the appropriate level for each child, we often divide the children up into smaller groups within the two Upper Preschool Groups, based on their individual ability.
Our curriculum is further enriched by a wide variety of activities linked to the term’s project theme, such as excursions and field trips.
Our weekly extra-curricular activities round off our program. These classes include:
Our Preschool program encourages children to learn and play together in an atmosphere of mutual respect and enjoyment with a curriculum that is stimulating and engaging. We teach our children to think critically and creatively as well as learn to communicate and learn in a team. By encouraging concentration, creativity, exploration and discovery, children acquire a love of learning that will remain with them throughout their lives.
